The role of the dentist is quite different in third world contries than it is in the United States.  We do not have the instrumentation to do much restorative care.  Therefore the primary role of the dentist is to perform an oral assessment on each patient and extract teeth as needed.  
   We usually give patients the option to see a doctor or a dentist.  For that reason, most of the patients you will see will be in a great deal of pain from their decaying teeth and the chance to get them removed professionally improves their quality of life immensely.
